Gov. Kathy Hochul has announced the completion of a $10 million downtown revitalization initiative in Westbury, the first Long Island community to receive the funding for transit-oriented development.

Leasing has begun for two new apartment buildings under construction in Westbury. 

Called the Cornerstone at Westbury, the two buildings on Railroad Avenue total 130 apartments, 72 units in phase one, which is scheduled to be completed this fall and 58 in phase two, which should be completed early next year. 

Over a dozen affordable apartments are now available in Westbury.

There are 18 workforce-priced units available at the new Cornerstone Westbury Complex on Railroad Avenue. The Long Island Housing Partnership says the monthly rent will be around $500 less than the market units. 

The Nassau County Industrial Development Agency has approved tax breaks for two Westbury apartment projects that officials said will expand housing opportunities in the village within the next two years. 

According to Terwilliger & Bartone Properties, a second property on Railroad Ave. is under contract for a Phase II proposal for The Cornerstone at Westbury.

"Your village checks every box that we are looking for," said the developer. "We've been trying to work here for quite some time, so we're thrilled to be here."

A developer is proposing to construct a $23 million apartment building near the Long Island Rail Road station in Westbury as part of a larger effort to boost the downtown area.

One major project that is slated to be completed by the end of 2021 in Lynbrook is the Cornerstone at Yorkshire apartment complex, which is under construction.

Lynbrook Mayor Alan Beach, at lecturn, and developer Anthony Bartone were presented with Smart Growth Awards from Vision Long Island on Aug. 6 for the forthcoming Cornerstone at Yorkshire project. Beach spoke about the importance of the project.

The Nassau County Industrial Development Agency approved a 20-year payment in lieu of taxes agreement, or PILOT, to build this $24 million, 80-unit Tudor-style apartment complex at the site of the Capri Lynbrook Motor Inn.

The developer announced Tuesday that it will raze the Capri Lynbrook Motel at 5 Freer St. shortly to begin construction this spring on an 80-unit rental building called The Cornerstone at Yorkshire.

The Village of Lynbrook Board voted on Monday to approve a plan for a four-story, 80-unit luxury rental apartment complex at the site of the Lynbrook Motor Inn, formerly known as the Capri.

Melville-based Fairfield Properties is in contract to scoop up a 42-unit apartment building in downtown Farmingdale for $15.55 million, Long Island Business News reported.
